With the opening of the economy in the late 1970’s the company grew rapidly, and establish itself as the preferred supplier of world reputed products. Mr.Alfred Subasinghe, a well known versatile business man with specific competency on agronomy, agriculture, floriculture & cash crops, is the founder and the key to the success of Tropical Seeds.

As the pioneer in the seed industry, the company has acquired a very competitive edge in the market. It has recently taken a major step in the Research & Development area by building a model farm at Hunumulla (Gampaha District). Many seed trials are conducted in this model farm. Suitability of seeds to Sri Lankan conditions as well as their performance is measured, and the best varieties are selected and introduced to the Sri Lankan market.
